Lithium electric vehicle charging problems are difficult to solve, highlighting the potential convenience advantages of hydrogen vehicles

A typical electric car (75kWh battery) takes 11 hours to charge from empty-to-full with a 7kW charging point.

According to the global electric vehicle outlook report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in the spring of 2021, the number of various lithium electric vehicles running on the world's roads will be 11 million in 2020. Although the automotive industry is sluggish due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, which will shrink by nearly 16% in 2020, the number of newly registered lithium electric vehicles worldwide is more than 3 million, an increase of 41% compared with 2019. In the first quarter of 2021, sales of  lithium electric vehicles were almost two and a half times that of the same period last year. According to the IEA's forecast, the global sales of lithium electric vehicles will increase to 20 million in 2025. Although lithium electric vehicles cannot achieve the real state of zero emission and green environmental protection, they can be accepted by the market, which means that this issue has been affirmed after years of hard work, and finally has a good start.

However, in the current situation, lithium electric vehicles should be as convenient as traditional fuel vehicles and can meet all kinds of different usage conditions, which may be disappointing. The establishment of charger alone and the lengthy charging time are a headache. Taking Europe, which attaches the most importance to environmental protection, as an example, according to the data of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the sales of lithium electric vehicles in the third quarter of 2021 will increase by nearly 57%, the number will exceed 212,000, and the sales of hybrid vehicles will increase by nearly 43% which is more than 197,000 vehicles. The difference between the two is limited. To a certain extent, this represents the inherent inadequacy of lithium electric vehicles, and still creates a full living space for hybrid vehicles.

The power source of lithium electric vehicles is completely dependent on charging, and does not have a mechanism to generate power itself. It is a pity that it is not possible to use electricity at will, just like home appliances, but it is conditional, restrictive and has to pay a high price. Thinking from this perspective, it is difficult for lithium electric vehicles to be a real new generation of green energy vehicles, and can only be a last resort solution in the transition period. This also shows that the active way of generating power with internal combustion engine body provided by external fuel supplement is more suitable for demand. In other words, a hydrogen vehicle that can take into account zero emissions and enjoy the same convenience as refueling a fuel vehicle is the best choice. However, the industry has little experience in using hydrogen as fuel, and needs to invest a great deal of resources in development, and there is still a lot of rooms for efforts.
