Only hydrogen vehicles can achieve the true zero emission

The ultimate goal of the Japanese industry is aimed at truly zero-emission hydrogen vehicles.

In the past 23 years, Toyota has sold more than 15 million gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles worldwide. It plans to launch 40 new or modified electric vehicles by 2025, including at least 10 lithium-ion models and hydrogen-powered models. Although the lithium battery type is included in Toyota's plan, it is not placed in the main position like Volkswagen and other competitors. Instead, the gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle continues to be the backbone of the product and plays the main role in the transition to zero emissions. In the lithium battery market in 2020, Tesla ranks first with a 23% share; followed by Volkswagen with 11%; and third is Hyundai with 7%. Japanese car manufacturers, led by Toyota, strategically do not agree that lithium-ion electric vehicles are the main vehicle type for future development. Instead, they have to develop in response to market consumers' diversified choices of new energy vehicles. This negative attitude can reflect that the share of lithium electric vehicles in all Japanese car manufacturers is only 5%. The ultimate goal of the Japanese industry is aimed at truly zero-emission hydrogen vehicles.

Coincidentally, Hyundai Motor of South Korea adopts a similar strategy to Toyota and negatively treats the development of new lithium electric vehicles. In the Hydrogen Wave, the global hydrogen energy event in the fall of 2021, Chung Eui-Sun, the chairman of the group, even declared that Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors will be by 2028. , Hydrogen fuel cells are used in all new car models. The future goal is to make hydrogen vehicles as cheap as electric vehicles by 2030, so as to commit to building a global hydrogen society by 2040. Compared with its main competitor Toyota, its indifference to lithium electric vehicles and its positive attitude towards hydrogen vehicles are even more significant. Hydrogen vehicles seem to be far away from everyone, but in the next ten years, driven by the healthy competition between the two major car manufacturers, visibility will be greatly improved. Lithium batteries will not be the only option, and will even prove to be just a compromise in the transitional period. In fact, these two major car manufacturers have already realized that lithium electric vehicles are absolutely unable to achieve zero emissions, so they directly focus on the development of hydrogen vehicles.
