Hydrogen cost aims same level of nature gas

One of the key factors affecting the popularity of hydrogen vehicle is the attractive cost of hydrogen. Although in Japan, under the condition of a certain driving distance, the price of hydrogen fuel consumed by hydrogen energy vehicles is a little cheaper than the gasoline of fuel vehicles, but the competition object of hydrogen vehicle is not fuel vehicles, but lithium electric vehicles; so hydrogen fuel costs must be more attractive in the future.

American Autopilot Review took California as an example to compare the price of Tesla Model 3 charging and Honda Accord's fuel consumption. The average cost per kWh is $0.20, and going from 10 kWh to 70 kWh with a 75 kWh battery pack costs a total of $12.00 (60 kWh x $0.20/kWh). According to the calculation standard of the U.S. Department of Energy that 45% of the distance is highway and 55% is urban driving, with an annual driving distance of 15,000 miles, the annual charging cost of Tesla Model 3 in 2020 is $500, but the gasoline cost of Honda Accord for $1050. The results will vary depending on local oil prices, electricity prices, road conditions, vehicle types and charging conditions. But generally speaking, the charging cost of lithium electric vehicles will be cheaper than that of gasoline vehicles.

However, a reasonable indicator of the cost of hydrogen should not be aimed at the automotive market, but should take the overall energy market as the largest consideration. Taking the current Japanese market as an example, one standard cubic meter of hydrogen is about 100 yen, but liquefied natural gas is only 12 yen. The Japanese government estimates that by 2030, the equivalent cost of liquefied natural gas will be reached. This means that there is a lot of room for improvement in hydrogen fuel price reduction, which provides a guarantee for the future development of hydrogen vehicle.
